Children

Southgate believes all children are a gift from God and want them to begin a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We begin at age two teaching Bible words, stories, and songs of praise. As they grow older, the curriculum develops with them to include age-appropriate crafts, games, and worship time. It is a blessing to partner with parents in making Christ-followers of all peoples, including children!

Every person who serves in Southgate’s children’s ministries is well-trained and has passed a background check.

Pre-K

Nursery

Southgate welcomes infants and babies in a safe and secure environment so that their parents or guardians can engage in other ministries. If the need should arise, our check-in system allows the nursery staff to notify a child's parent.

Petite Praisers

Designed for four-year-olds, Petite Praisers meets during the Sunday School hour and also during the worship service. The latter time builds upon what the children learn during the previous hour, including simple lessons from the Bible and reflecting God’s love. In addition, they sing songs, enjoy a snack, make crafts, and have free play in a fun, safe environment. Each Petite Praiser receives a take-home sheet to help parents review the lesson with their child.

Sunday School (grades K-5)

Our Sunday School program aims to teach students the storyline of the Bible while helping them see how it relates to their daily lives. These programs are age-specific for children. Our adult volunteer teachers lovingly guide the students in a fun atmosphere, opening their eyes to God’s redemptive plan as it is explained in the Bible.

iGrow

iGrow is a high-energy program that uses a music, video, and live presentations to teach children how to apply biblical principles to their lives. Students in grades K–3 begin in the main Sunday worship service and are dismissed to iGrow immediately before the sermon. In iGrow, they participate in a fast-paced program that begins with a large group setting that includes teaching, singing, and playing. Students then break into a small group mentoring environment aimed at helping them understand and obey what God has said in His Word.

Children grades 4–5 stay with their parents in the worship service and complete a kid’s sheet designed to help them follow along during the sermon.

Awana

At Southgate, our Awana program is designed to partner with parents to teach and disciple children. The emphasis is on growing children spiritually through the memorization of scripture and application of the Bible to their lives. The Awana program is for children ages 3 years old through 6th grade and meets Wednesdays throughout the school year. The program costs $16, which includes a vest and a book, and weekly dues are $0.50. Awana is open to the public, but requires registration when you first attend.
